Amuck! Highlight Review

image

My love for liquid lipsticks and highlighters is endless. Give me a good liquid lipstick, and a killer highlight and I’m set for the day.

Well, yesterday was my birthday and spent my day at Disneyland with my baby sister (her birthday was Monday) and got tired of the lines early. So we left. When I got home, I checked my mail, and there it was…

image

I introduce to you, the limited edition highlight pan from Bitter Lace Beauty called “Amuck.” Named after Hocus Pocus, it was properly named and launched as a Halloween 2015 special edition. Once they’re gone, that’s it!

The imprint on it continues it’s spooky, Halloweenie vibe.

image

It’s a grey purple color with greenish iridescent sparkles. It doesn’t sound appealing just by having it described, so I made a swatch as soon as I opened the package:

image

I also wore it today 🙂

image

(Please excuse the odd car selfie.)

Definitely make this part of your palette. The formula Amuck is made of is consistent with the pigmentation and buttery, softness of the other highlight pans in her shop. Super blendable, and can layer for a hint of highlight, or heavy if you’re into looking like a Cullen.

Get it while it’s still here!

REVOLUTION Cosmetics’ Liquid To Matte Lipstick

image

Revolution Cosmetics has always been on my bucket list of make up to try. Being that it was primarily U.K based, it was difficult for me to get my hands on anything from them.

Today I walked into Ulta by my work to purchase a, “No UV light needed” gel top coat polish, and was disappointed in that Ulta’s small polish selection. I couldn’t find anything I was looking for, for once in Ulta history. As I was about to walk away defeated, I stumbled upon a new end cap, with a sign that said, “Revolution.” I immediately had a mini freak out, thinking, “are you serious right now!?” And bought the three liquid lipstick shades that stuck out to me…

And in typical Dani Danger fashion, they were orange purples.

image

Now I know exactly what you’re thinking, “why do you have so many liquid to matte lipsticks, Dani?!” And honestly sometimes I ask myself the same thing.

As I was saying…

The formula at first threw me off. It was a cross between LA Splash and NYX matte lip cremes. I thought, “great, it’s going to be a flop.

I was wrong.

image

I should’ve waited to take these photos after they completely dried up, because they’re extremely matte after. All three shades were slighly hard to put on as they were applying a little uneven, but found that applying in layers helped. They don’t have a scent to them, so no “yummy smells like vanilla” or “holy cow this smells like paint” reactions.

They’re smudge proof. Extremely smudge proof. Waterproof I would say. I tried scrubbing the swatches off my arm and had a difficult time removing them!

image

Oh! And the best part:

They’re only $5.

The next items to try will be shadow palettes for me. Stay tuned for that review!

Xo.

Bitter Lace Beauty review

image

So as any make up artist or enthusiast knows, the more you own the more your vanity holds and the more weight you have to carry in your kit. I hated those cardboard Freestyle palettes that you can find at any major beauty supply store, and the plastic ones weren’t the sturdiest. I came to accept I probably had no choice.

I found out about this small business through a Facebook acquaintance named Jenna. She hand makes palettes and has a small business called Bitter Lace Beauty.

I ordered two palettes. One large measuring 12×6 and a smaller one measuring 6×4.

image

image

The large holds 116 Mac size pans and 64 Make-up Forever pans. Smaller one holds 30 Mac size pans and 12 Make-up Forever pans. These are so much better than what I anticipated!

They’re made of wood and metal hardware. They feel incredibly sturdy and although made from wood, aren’t as heavy as I originally anticipated. They’re able to be customize with your own image or you can purchase a premade design.

image

image

The palettes have a double sided magnetic floor, and a strong magnetic closure. The pans stay still. I haven’t had any of them slide around or move so far. Sp that’s a plus!

image

image

She’s also included a pressed powder highlighter from her new line. This shade is called New Seashells and is gorgeous! The highlight formula is pigmented, soft and blendable. The shade itself is an opalescent pink with purple shimmers.

image

Bitter Lace Beauty also has a limited edition pack to where you can purchase the entire line of highlighters with a blinged out touch.

I love these palettes so far and feel they’re worth every penny. I rate these a 5 of 5, and plan on making many future purchases.
Get one. You will not regret it!

Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks

image

So I’ve been under a rock lately. I haven’t been active on Instagram to be on point with the latest and greatest make-up trends or buys. Cut myself off for a bit to concentrate on catching up financially on other things going on in my life.

This week after paying big bills and after going grocery shopping, I had a few bucks to play with. So,  where I work there’s an Ulta near by. On my lunch break decided I was gona go play, and see what I walk out with.

I went high end first, didn’t really see anything I “needed.” So I walk over to the lower end side, and walked through the Nyx aisle.

The aisle was significantly larger. Saw new products and shades, I definitely wanted to play. So as I swatch the new Xtreme Lip Cremes I stumble across this sign that says “New! High Voltage Lipsticks.”

image

They’re bright and come in an array of different shades. Me being me, though, swatched the nudes and purples. I’m a sucker for nudes and purples. You know this already.

image

The tube reminds me of a thin version of Wet N Wild’s matte lipsticks. Has a clear cap, which usually I’m terrible with because I always end up cracking them. But it does make it easier for me to see which shade I’m picking up.

image

The texture is creamy, yes. I do feel that some colors wear better than others. Stone (pictured above) was fine. I had to reapply it a few times during the day, but was better when I paired it with Mac Cosmetics lip liner in Stone also (which by the way, is a great combo to try!!!) No reapplying as often as before, but in the end I think all that was left was lip liner, no lipstick.

Flawless was more of a lip balm for me, without the nourishment. I felt like the color was pretty sheer, which I didn’t mind, but it left my lips really dry. I tried wearing it with balm under it, but over time my lips would just feel dry. Lips ended up peeling. Weird. I really wanted to like this one.

Twisted is a super cute purple shade, perfect for spring and summer. This one is way more opaque than the first two. Super shiny finish, but again, made my lips peel! These lipsticks have a balm like feel to them when applying, no way are they matte or have a formula that is made to thicken, so this lip peeling thing is throwing me off. It’s still a pretty color and probably my favorite of the three. Makes me wonder if the High Voltage line is better with bright/vivid colors rather than nudes.

So, from 1 to 5 stars, I’m giving these a 2. I didn’t care for these AT ALL. I might keep Twisted, but more than likely I’ll be returning all three. Maybe I’m just a rare case. What did everyone else think of these?

Jeffree Star Cosmetics

image

As most of you know, I occasionally work with different beauty companies for promo purposes (make-up show, imats, phamexpo, etc) and had my fair share of both bad and good experiences with cosmetic companies.

I ordered my very first JSC lipstick as soon as midnight hit on Friday, 3/13. I ordered (714.)

image

The shipping confirmation was sent to me later that day (yes that quick,) and I received it today, 3/16. I was impressed.

Then I actually opened the box. The product packaging was super pretty. Sturdy. Looked expensive. The actual quality of the product was immaculate. I couldn’t help myself and tried it on immediately. When Jeffree says it’s kiss proof, it really is kiss proof! I couldn’t even wipe it off even after I finished eating. It wasn’t drying, it was vibrant, and didn’t have an odd smell to it as some other liquid to matte lipsticks have had.

image

JSC did great homework and made a GREAT product. I will continue to buy from Jeffree Star Cosmetics and actually just placed my order for RedRum!

What are your thoughts?

Sephora Lustre Mattes Review

image

Hello! Now there has been a big beauty trend floating around, and I like to call it “Battle Of The Liquid Matte.” It’s pretty self explanatory.

Well coming from someone who absolutely ADORES matte lipstick, I try as often as I can to get in on whatever hype Instagram wants me to get on so I can properly put in my own .02¢ on a product. Then I decide to return it, or keep it. Yes, I’m “that” girl.

So, everyone was raving about the Sephora Creme Matte lipsticks (or glosses… whatever they’re referred as) and actually stumbled on the lustre mattes by complete and utter accident.

image

So, as any girl would do, I bought three. They’re $16. Why not?

image

image

(Tube shown next to Mac lipstick for reference)

Now, I bought one that would make me feel sexy (Cranberry,) one to make me feel sweet (Pink Flush,) and one more muted for every day at work (Fig. And yes I still have a real job that pays me an hourly. It’s how I can afford these.)

Here’s swatch numeró uno, with Cranberry:

image

image

Now for reference, I wear Mac Matchmaster 2.0, am an NC40 powder, and usually wear light/medium drug store brand shades.

I had little to no opinion originally when I saw this at the shop, but once I got home and actually slathered it on, I immediately patted myself on the back with a, “Good job, Dani!” Because I absolutely loved the color. Extremely easy to apply, not drying, and wasn’t at all patchy!

So with such success from the first swatch, I immediately wanted to try the other two.

Swatch numeró dos:

image

image

Here I introduce to you, Pink Flush. Not super impressed with this one. Odd, but for some reason, this particular color wasn’t as easy to apply for me. It was pretty when I swatched it on my hand, just not as pretty on. I felt this one was a tad patchy and inconsistent with the first one. This one is going back. Or I may keep it and give it a second chance to redeem itself.

Swatch numeró tres:

image

image

Ah… Fig. Now we’re talkin’. I probably have more nudey-mauvey lipsticks now than I ever had, but this one gives just the right amount of nudey-mauve. If that makes ANY kind of sense. I wore this today to work, and I only had to reapply ONCE. After I ate my bean and cheese burrito from Taco Bell for lunch.

This liquid to matte stays a little more shiny than most other liquid mattes, but it’s probably why they’re called “lustre” mattes (go figure.) They’re not at all drying, and my lips were actually moist throughout the day.

So all in all, I’ll give these a rating of 4 of 5stars. Mainly because of the texture from Pink Flush. I may buy more of these once my local Sephora’s stock more colors.

Make Up Splurges 2014!!!

image

   Hi everyone!
So last year I made a “Splurge List” for the VIB events at Sephora and discounts everywhere else. So here I am… giving you a new list for this year’s products!!!
This year I’m naming things that aren’t just found at Sephora, but places like Nordstrom, Ulta, and so on due to Ebates.com’s crazy amount of cash back, and RetailMeNot.com’s coupons!

PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE HONEST OPINIONS, AND I WAS NOT ASKED NOR PAID TO MAKE THESE STATEMENTS IN EACH REVIEW.

So here’s the list:

1) Tarte Cosmetics Pin Up Blush Palette

image

Price: $42
Why: The blushes that Tarte makes are to die for. I was lucky enough to have Jenn give me some to try out, and completely fell in love. When I saw that another palette was coming out (I have last year’s “Off The Cuff”) I was extremely excited! Mind you these are full sized blushes, and normally eacg blush compact sells for $26 EACH. It’s not the greatest for travel, or kit use as to it’s bulky, but for the collector or the girl who likes great makeup and keeping her vanity pretty, this would be a great buy!!!

2) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

image

Price: $58
Why: Any woman who loves makeup and applying it knows a great contour job also requires immaculate highlighting as well. This was a limited edition product last year, and wasn’t really on my radar at the time, but after using it and seeing how much my face glows, I definitely feel everyone has to have this palette. A little goes a long way, and I use it sometimes as a highlight on my clavicle and brow bone.

3) Glam Glow Mud Masks

image

Price: $69
Why: I’m a sucker for facial masks, which is probably the only form of skin care I actually use (believe it or not.) I particularly love clay masks, and this one trumps over every single one I’ve ever used. As you’re wearing it, you can actually see the dirt and grease being cleared from your skin. Once you wash it off, you skin immediately looks radiant and it even feels clean. I only buy these once the year. Yes you guessed it… only when Friends and Family or VIB discounts come around, and when I do, I stock up!

4) Viseart Eyeshadow Palettes

image

Price: $80
Why: I really can’t explain the excitement I had when Viseart made it’s way into Sephora locations. I had one that I used on all my brides (this one pictured is the neutral palette) and it’s seriously is my favorite. It surpasses my Lorac Pro palettes, and if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you KNOW my love for Lorac. They glide like butter, and have little to no fall out. They may be a bit pricey, but they meet all expectations and are worthy of the $80 price tag.

5) Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette

image

Price: $58
Why: The love I have for the Highlight Palette is superior to anything Hourglass carries, but their blushes come real close. The reason I love these brushes is because they give a natural looking glow to the skin. They apply easy to the skin, and stay all day. If you can’t afford the palette or miss it (yes, this is limited edition also) you can try their single blush compacts. They’re significantly larger in size, and retail at $35 each. This palette is the better deal, in my opinion. Just get it.

6) Lorac Pro (1, 2, and Mega)

image

Price: $40-$59
Why: As mentioned earlier, I swear by Lorac eyeshadow palettes. It’s what I personally use daily, and in every single look I do, whether it be a pretty bridal look or a crazy Halloween look, my Lorac Pro Palettes are always involved. The Lorac Mega is limited edition and can only be found on Amazon.com or Lorac’s website, but the Pro1 and Pro2 can be found at Ulta or even Kohl’s. Open a Kohl’s rewards card and you’ll earn some points and even be part of their Cash Back program, which can be used on MORE make up!

7) Make-up Artist Cosmetics (MAC) Lipsticks

image

Price: $16 (Regular Collection)
$17-22 (Limited Edition Tubes)
Why: My kit is FILLED with MAC lipsticks. They’re hands down my favorite brand to use. I believe I have over 100 lipstick tubes from MAC, and I’m not ashamed. They’re long lasting, and worth every penny. Now you’re probably saying, “Why include MAC? They never go on sale!” Why, on the contrary, they do. Now if you order anything through Ebates, you should know Nordstrom.com and Macys.com are always giving a certain amount of cash back, and if you have a Nords or Macy’s card, you’ll also get points for purchasing anything in the store… Yes, make-up included.

8) Original Beauty Box

image

Price: $119-159
Why: Okay, okay. I may have a biased opinion on this one because I did intern for Jessica and Original Beauty Box, but hear me out… They’re seriously amazing. I own both the original and the deluxe sizes and they’re the bees-knees. My vanity would be a mess without them, and if I need to take all my makeup with me for any reason, (which has happened before… Vegas trips and other trips that require that I look glamourous) it’s a cinch. The boxes are durable, haven’t turned yellow, drawers glide open, and I can actually see everything I own through the boxes. Sign up for the emails to keep you updated, as to we always have holiday sales!

9) Melt Cosmetics

image

Price: $19
Why: They’re an Indie brand with high-end quality. Sure, they’re $3 more than what a MAC lipstick would cost, but the longevity, funky colors, and pigmentation is through the roof. I own seven of these lipsticks, and always get compliments, no matter which color I’m wearing. All the funky shades actually are wearable for day use, and can be mixed with other colors to be either up or down played. Definitely something to add to your cart!

10) Marc Jacobs Dot Eau De Parfum

image

Price: $24-$94
Why: Not only will the bottle make your vanity look pretty, but the scent is to die for. Dot is probably my favorite perfume to wear, and can be worn all year long. Yes, it’s more of a day scent, but the sweet combination of fruitiness and florals definitely combine well! Ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Sephora… they all carry this scent, so how you use your discounts and gift cards is completely up to you!
